THE MR. SEWER STORY

Mr. Sewer was started in 1982 by Bruce Winborn, a self-taught entrepreneur and Peoria, Illinois native. Starting with $3,000.00 of borrowed money and a used Ford station wagon, he built a business offering sewer/drain cleaning services in the Central Illinois area.

Over the years the reputation of Mr. Sewer grew, developing a loyal following of customers from all demographic groups. As Bruce Winborn says "I’ve worked on every thing from mansions to shacks (most jobs are somewhere in between) everyone has toilets, sinks and drains that can cause problems" I call this The Great Equalizer.

25 years and 30,000 service calls later, Winborn began sharing some of his ideas on video. These homemade clips are featured on You Tube and have developed a cult following.

The You Tube series has been viewed by audiences worldwide, and caught the attention of an East Coast franchise developer, here in the U.S. Both the developer and Winborn agreed that Mr. Sewer‘s concept would have mass appeal on a national level. The two joined forces to form a new Mr. Sewer, an upgraded version of the original Peoria business model. In August, 2009 Mr. Sewer Franchising, Inc. was formed.

MR. SEWER NAME AND LOGOS

People always ask "how did you come up with that name?" Bruce Winborn explains "when I was a sewage treatment plant operator back in the 1970’s a co-worker called me Mr. S—T, I told him that I can’t say that in public, so he changed it to Mr. Sewer, and I have been using it ever since.

The original Mr. Sewer logo was just an ink pen drawing that went through several revisions over the years. The new logo features a full-bodied man in overalls wearing a cape and the tag line: Your Drain Expert.

SEWER-HERO ORIGIN

The tag line AMERICA’S SEWER- HERO is a companion trademark of Mr. Sewer and has its own unique logo consisting of a circle with an S in the middle made from pipe. There are several other versions featuring a small version of Mr. Sewer flying through a crud-filled pipe. This dual-branding gives Mr. Sewer an identity that stands out from the crowd of look-alike and sound-alike names that cause confusion in the marketplace　

"I came up with the sewer-hero idea myself" Winborn continues saying "I really work up a sweat when I work and got into the habit of draping a bath towel around my shoulders. One day I came home wearing a red towel and my kids pointed at me and said that I looked like a dirty version of Superman-to which I responded, I guess that makes me a "sewer-hero" and I’ve been using that line ever since. Winborn laughs and says that proves that I have a comic-book mindset.
